Box ScoreMADISON, N.J. (March 1, 2015) – The Drew University men's tennis team won its 2015 season opener with an 8-1 victory over cross-street rival FDU-Florham in the latest addition of the Battle of Madison Avenue on Sunday in the Simon Forum.

Similar to their female counterparts, who scored a 9-0 sweep over the Devils on the indoor courts in the Simon Forum before the men's match, the men in Blue & Green got off to a quick start by winning all three doubles matches. The win was the fourth in a row by the Rangers in the rivalry series.

The senior duo of
Sal Sclafani and
Scott Vander Veen got things started with a swift 8-1 win at second doubles, before the first doubles team of senior
Tommy Butschi and junior
Adam Clark took care of business with an 8-5 triumph over the Devils' top doubles squad. Senior
Jonnie Singleton and freshman
Olle Verschoof completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win at the third position.

Clark helped Drew keep the foot on the gas in singles action by picking up his 20
th career singles victory on Sunday. The junior took it to the Devils' top player and won the first singles match handily, 6-2, 6-1.

Vander Veen made the Ranger team victory official by winning the fifth match of the day (6-2, 7-5) over his third singles opponent. Singleton (6-3, 6-1) and freshman
Luke Decker (8-1) each won their first career single matches and Sclafani wrapped up the successful dual match with a 6-1, 6-2 win at fifth singles.

The Rangers head back outdoors on Wednesday, March 18 for a non-conference dual match at Muhlenberg College at 4:30 p.m. Action begins at the Drew Tennis Complex on Friday, March 20 at 4:00 p.m. when the Rangers host the City College of New York in a non-conference dual match.
