GALLOWAY, N.J. (March 24, 2015) – The Drew University softball team, after traveling to square off against Richard Stockton College, fell in both parts of a doubleheader on Tuesday by scores of 13-0 in a 5-inning Game 1 and 6-0 in Game 2.
Â
Freshman third baseman
Lauren Mastropierro extended her team-high hit total to 14 with a 1-for-3 day at the plate in Game 2. Mastropierro's performance extended her batting average to .382 on the year.
Â
Freshman second baseman
Danielle Martinez logged the team's only multi-hit performance with a 2-for-3 Game 2.
Â
In Game 1, sophomore first baseman
Emma Agostini broke up a no-hitter that Stockton starter Brittany Ksiezopolski was working on into the fifth. After freshman centerfielder
Heather Ronchi and senior catcher
Kate McNamara showed the ability to pull the ball in the inning prior, but had their attempts result in groundouts, Agostini finally yanked line shot down the left-field line, stretching the Rangers' first hit to a double. Shortly after Agostini's extra-base knock, the contest came to an early close.
Â
Game 2 featured a much closer contest, and saw senior starting pitcher
Amy Benedict work into the 6
th inning having allowed only three runs and not allowing a hit since the fourth. It was deep into the sixth that the Ospreys bats came alive. They notched three more runs before Benedict coaxed three pop-ups to get herself out of the jam with the score at 6-0 going into the seventh.
Â
Drew will dive back into Landmark Conference softball with doubleheader against Juniata College scheduled for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. on March 28
