Women's Lax Drops Landmark Tilt vs. No. 13 Catholic

MADISON, N.J. (March 28, 2015) – The Drew University women's lacrosse team dropped a Landmark Conference contest to No. 13 The Catholic University of America by a score of 21-10.

Senior midfielder Krysta Cento tied her season-high with four goals on the day. Sophomore midfielder Morgan Mason also turned in a four-goal day, her second such performance of the season

It took just a minute of gameplay before senior attacker Nikki Kleiman set the tone in the contest. She attacked the defensive front with force, and then with grace as she sidestepped defenders and finished with a quick wrist flip right in close with the goalie.

With 20 minutes to play in the first, freshman attacker Sage Johnson turned on a crisp feed from sophomore midfielder Anna Fiorini, netting Drew's (4-2, 0-2) second goal of the game and bringing the score to 3-2.

The Cardinals (7-2, 2-0), with a rapid-fire attack expanded their lead to 8-3, but Drew began clawing back. Kleiman spun around the outside arch and flipped an off balance bounce pass to Cento who fired home a goal on a hop to bring the score to 8-4 with 15 minutes to play.

After Mason netted her second goal of the game, the Cardinals would go on a prolonged scoring binge. Catholic scored six goals in six minutes, a streak that would only be interrupted by Mason's third goal, granting her second hat trick of the season and bringing the score to 13-6 in favor of the Cardinals with fewer than two minutes to play.

Another flurry of conversions by the Cardinals and the game slipped out of reach of the Rangers.

Drew sophomore goalkeeper Gianna Minogue made 11 saves in net while facing a barrage of 43 Catholic shots.

Drew will look to right itself as they travel to Swarthmore, P.A. to take on a 6-2 Garnet team on Monday, March 30th at 7:00 p.m. The Rangers return to the stadium on Wednesday, April 1st at 7:00 p.m. to host Richard Stockton College in non-conference action.
