Kleiman Gets 300th Point in Close Loss at Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. (March 30, 2015) – For the third straight year, the Drew University women's lacrosse team fell by just one goal to Swartmore College with this year's setback coming by a final score of 12-11 on the road Monday evening.

With three goals, senior attacker Nikki Kleiman became just the fourth Ranger to join the exclusive 300 Point Club. Her second goal of the game, which put Drew (4-3) up 3-2 midway through the first half, clinched the milestone. Her third of the contest, scored with 7:39 to play in the first half and putting the Rangers up 5-3, moved the senior into third place all-time at Drew with 301 career points.

Additionally, with three draw controls on Monday, Kleiman tied the Drew University school record for career draw control with 194.

The Rangers took an 8-5 lead into halftime against the Garnet (6-2), led by scoring runs of three and four in the first half to erase an early 2-0 deficit. Sophomore midfielder Morgan Mason, as she has become accustomed to doing this season, put Drew on the board first. Kleiman followed with two straight, including the iconic 300th point, to put the Rangers up 3-2.

Swarthmore tied it up at 3-3 with 12:45 to play in the opening half, but Drew strung together four straight to take a 7-3 lead. Mason and Kleiman scored again, and senior midfielder Krysta Cento scored two of her four goals. Mason also finished with four goals on Monday.

Swartmore closed out the half on a 2-1 run, with Drew's goal coming from Mason on a free position shot, but the Rangers took the 8-5 advantage into the break.

The tables turned in the second half as the Garnet scored three of the half's first four goals to cut the Drew lead to 9-8. Cento netted her 18th and 19th goals of the season to briefly prevent Swarthmore from tying the game. It wouldn't take long, however, as the Garnet scored four straight between the 16:35 and 5:12 mark in the second half to take a 12-10 lead.

The Rangers launched a last-ditch comeback as Mason scored her fourth of the game – and 20th of the season – with 1:34 to play. The comeback would fall just short, and Swarthmore was triumphant in the non-conference contest.

Drew returns to Ranger Stadium on Wednesday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. for a non-conference game against Stockton University.
