ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. (April 18, 2015) – The Drew University softball team fell victim to an Elizabethtown College walk-off home run in Game 1 as they dropped both halves of an afternoon Landmark Conference doubleheader to the now third place Blue Jays 7-6 and 6-1.
Â
Freshman center fielder
Heather Ronchi extended her team-high batting average to .330, going a combined 4-for-6 with two RBIs on the day. Freshman left fielder
Brooke Adams touched home on three occasions in Game 1 and now leads the team with 13 runs scored for the season.
Â
Senior starting pitcher and first baseman
Laura D'Ornellas went a combined 4-for-7 on the day working 6.1 innings in the circle in Game 1.
Â
Game 2 saw sophomore starting pitcher
Emma Agostini turn in another quality start, going six innings and allowing three earned runs in the loss. Her four strikeouts were a season-high. The freshman has now allowed three earned runs or fewer in five of her last seven outings.
Â
The opening game held all the action as the Rangers (6-24, 0-10) used a top half of the seventh surge to take a 6-4 lead into the Jays' (12-14, 5-3) final act. Drew strung together five straight singles to turn the 4-4 tie in their favor.
Â
E-Town, however, responded by getting their leadoff runner aboard to start the bottom half of the seventh and chased her home with a single before a two-run shot to left walked them off. The loss was the fifth time this year that the Rangers have dropped a contest by a single run.
Â
Game 2 featured a six-run Jay scoring spree spread evenly across innings four and five, proving too much for Drew to overcome.
Â
The Rangers will get a break from conference play for a while as they close out this road trip with a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. with Centenary (N.J.) College on Wednesday, April 22
nd. They return home the following day for a 3:00 p.m. twin bill with New Jersey City University.
