Men's Lacrosse Concludes 2015 Season on Senior Day

MADISON, N.J. (April 25, 2015) – The Drew University men's lacrosse team concluded the 2015 season with a 12-5 loss to Elizabethtown College in the Landmark Conference finale on Saturday afternoon at Ranger Stadium.

The Rangers (2-11, 0-7) celebrated Senior Day for three graduating players, and the two suited up for action went out in style. Attacker Hutch Fisher recorded a goal and an assist, while defender Steven Damelio picked up four ground balls and caused a turnover. Midfielder Robert Hart, who missed the end of the season with an injury, was also honored as part of a pregame Senior Day ceremony.

Freshman attacker Harry Rice wrapped up a phenomenal rookie season with two goals, an assist and a game-high five ground balls. Sophomore attacker Tom Cotroneo added two goals for the Rangers. Sophomore goalkeeper Teddy Sweeney faced 47 Elizabethtown shots and made 15 stops to finish his season with 141 saves.

Elizabethtown (14-2, 7-0), who will enter the Landmark Conference Championships as the No. 1 seed in its first season in the league, made its mark in the first quarter with a 5-0 performance during the opening 15 minutes.

Drew made its comeback to start the second quarter with its first of three man-up goals of the first half. The first came from the stick of Rice on an assist by Fisher at the 11:56 mark. Just 1:30 later, Cotroneo converted a Rice pass to make it 5-2 Blue Jays. E-Town got the two back, but Drew concluded the first half with another man-up goal to go 2-for-3 on such situations in the opening half hour of the contest.

Fisher's unassisted blast two minutes into the third quarter cut the Blue Jays' lead to 7-4, but from there the visiting team strung three goals together to take command with a 10-4 lead. Junior Steven Cola assisted on a man-up goal converted by Cotroneo, but it was just one of six man-up opportunities in which the Rangers scored. Elizabethtown netted one more to close out the third quarter up 11-5, and a 1-0 fourth quarter set the final at 12-5.
