MADISON, N.J. (Sept. 23, 2015) – The Drew University field hockey team (1-6) continued its season with the 2015 installment of "The Battle of Madison Avenue" with the FDU-Florham Devils (5-3). Sophomore defender
Michele Pozyc set a new Landmark Conference career record for defensive saves at 29 in the 1-0 Ranger loss on Wednesday evening.
Pozyc tallied three defensive saves highlighting the first half for the Rangers. Her second of the night at 18:33 brought her career total to 28, taking her to the top of the Landmark Conference career defensive saves list.
At the 38:34 in the second half, Pozyc tallied her fourth defensive save of the night bringing her career total to 30. The 30 career defensive saves by Pozyc tied the school's 21 year-old record set in 1994 by Deanna Gallagher (C'94). "She's a beast in the cage," says Ranger head coach
Jess Gray on the night by Pozyc. "She's tied for the career record in just two years, it's absolutely fantastic for her and the team."

Tonight's contest marked the 33rd time the Rangers and Devils have faced each other on the field. Drew holds the all-time series advantage 22-8-3. Tonight's win for FDU-Florham marks the first time the Devils have won back-to-back years since 2011-12. Drew's last victory over FDU-Florham came in a 2-1 victory back in 2013.
The Devils controlled possession for most of the night, drawing 23 penalty corners and taking 32 shots, putting 17 on goal, forcing the Rangers to play a very defensive game. The game's lone goal came in the 17th minute when FDU-Florham's Kim Davis took a shot from the top of the circle, finding it's way past the Drew defense and into the goal.
"Ryann stepped up and played fantastic in goal," said Gray on the play of freshman goalkeeper
Ryann Callaghan.
Callaghan made her seventh start of the season in cage for the Rangers turning away 11 saves in all 70 minutes of action. "She played really well tonight, she took control and lead us defensively," Gray added. Callaghan currently sits second in the Landmark with 59 saves on the season.
The Rangers return to the field on Saturday, September 26 at 1:00 p.m. as they open Landmark Conference action with a road game in Huntingdon, Pa. with Juniata College. "The girls are ready," says Gray. "We've got some fine tuning to do before the game but we're really excited and hoping to go on the road and bring home a win."
