HUNTINGDON, Pa. (Sept. 26, 2015) – On Saturday afternoon at Juniata College, sophomore defender
Michele Pozyc broke a 21-year-old career record. With one defensive save in Drew's setback to the Eagles, Pozyc is now the all-time leader in the category in program history with 31 career saves.
Last season, with 17 defensive saves in her Rookie of the Year award-winning performance, Pozyc set the single-season record. Now, with a career total of 31 she has the all-time title, in just 24 games played. Pozyc has set a torrid pace and still has two and a half seasons of field hockey ahead of her. Pozyc has passed Deanna Gallagher, who accumulated 30 such saves in her career back in 1994. Now, 21 years later, Pozyc stands alone.
The Rangers (1-7, 0-1) fell to Juniata (4-4, 1-0) in the first Landmark Conference game of the year, 10-0.
With 16 saves on the Eagles (4-4), freshman goalkeeper
Ryann Callaghan made the fifth most saves in a single game in Ranger history. The last Drew goalie to save 16 in a game was C.C. Carlini in 2012 against Catholic.
The Rangers (1-7) logged three defensive saves in the setback, the first came from sophomore midfielder
Madi Sheetz in the 19
th minute of the first half. With ten seconds remaining in the first half, freshman defender
Kelsey Rasmuson logged her first career defensive save.
The Rangers play their last non-conference game before a four-game stretch of Landmark tilts when they travel to Dover, DE to take on Wesley College.
