14 Boards From Stephens Not Enough in Setback

MADISON, N.J. (Jan. 30, 2016) – The Drew University women's basketball team wound up on the short end of a back-and-forth Conference contest with Juniata College on Saturday afternoon that ended with a 67-59 final.

Senior forward Courtney Stephens turned in a 16-point, 14-rebound effort in the setback and junior guard Sam Lane contributed 15 points. Stephens came within two rebounds of a career-high.

With a double-double in the day's contest, Stephens registered the 20th such performance of her career and eighth of the year.

The teams spent nearly the entirety of the second half trading leads and jostling for position. Lane drilled a clutch, deep two from the corner to tie the score at 57 with three minutes to go. Drew would hold at 57, though, as Juniata pulled away.

With five minutes to go in the first half, junior guard Courtney Trzasko hit a 3-pointer to knot the teams up at 24. The Rangers headed to the half with a 34-29 lead.

Drew fell despite shooting at a better percentage than Juniata (41%-35%).  The Rangers were significantly outrebounded offensively in the tilt with Juniata registering an 18-7 advantage.

Drew will look to bounce back on Wednesday, Feb. 3rd when it hosts The United States Merchant Marine academy at 7:00 p.m.
