Rangers Bested After Mariners Pull Away in Fourth

MADISON (N.J.) Feb. 3, 2016 – The Drew University women's basketball team's attack seemed to run out of steam on Wednesday night as The United States Merchant Marine Academy surpassed the Rangers in the fourth quarter of the 64-53 loss.

Junior guard Sam Lane netted 15 points (4-of-7 shooting), pacing the Rangers (7-14, 4-8) in that department while grabbing four rebounds. Junior forward Ryan Jackson filled out a pretty full stat sheet with eight points, five rebounds, and three assists. Junior guard Hannah Miller netted 12 points. Freshman guard Hailey Stine and senior forward Courtney Stephens had four rebounds and four points each.

The Rangers' game-long attack was efficient. They ended the first half shooting at a percentage over 60. The Rangers enjoyed a lead for the first three periods but the Mariners (8-11, 2-9) finally eclipsed them in the fourth. Merchant Marine took a 46-42 lead with eight minutes to play.

The fourth period featured back and forth play as the teams mostly drove to the basket. The Marines maintained a two-point lead for the majority of the period with the Rangers unable to string together baskets. Once they got into foul trouble the Mariners found the opening to pull away.

Drew turned the ball over 19 times to Merchant Marine's 10. The Rangers shot much better than the Mariners posting a 49-percent clip from the field and a 46 from 3-point range.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early to this Saturday's contest with The Catholic University of America as Drew will be celebrating senior day. The opening tip is roughly scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
