MADISON, N.J. (Feb. 6, 2016) – On a day usually meant to honor a host of fourth-year players, senior forward
Courtney Stephens was Drew's lone Senior Day honoree. The Rangers dropped the conference contest to the Catholic University of America, 69-64, in Baldwin Gym.
Stephens registered 20 double-doubles in her career. With 598, Stephens has grabbed the seventh most rebounds in program history. Today, Stephens netted 17 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard
Hannah Miller dropped a team-high 22 points, her second highest output of the season. Miller also grabbed five rebounds. Junior forward
Sam Lane logged 13 points and five rebounds in the setback.
Catholic's consistent scoring dug a hole too deep for Drew to crawl out of. The Rangers answered a 51-37 deficit with a strong comeback in the fourth quarter. Junior forward
Ryan Jackson and Stephens traded layups to open the quarter and then Lane and Miller drained back-to-back threes. The 10-point run trimmed the deficit to just four with nearly seven minutes to play. Every time Catholic tried to put the game away Lane or Miller would hit a big shot to pull closer. The Rangers couldn't quite close the gap despite several attempts.
The Cardinals registered 19 points off the fast break with the Rangers unable to get any. Drew sank seven 3-pointers on 22 tries with Catholic netting three on 16.
The Rangers have three more games on the docket to close out the season. The next one comes on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Moravian College at 7:00 p.m. The final home game of the year is the following Wednesday, Feb. 17 against Elizabethtown College at 7:00 p.m.
