WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 9, 2016) – The Drew University women's basketball team fell in Landmark Conference action at The Catholic University of America, 66-47, on Saturday.
Junior
Sam Lane led the Rangers on the offensive end with 17 points and three assists, while converting 5-of-12 from three-point land. Guard
Hannah Miller was right behind her classmate with 16 points, while sophomore center

The Cardinals (10-5, 5-1) led this one coast to coast to hand the Rangers (6-9, 3-3) their third straight Landmark Conference loss. A 9-0 run to start the contest occurred within 2:18, but Lane got the Rangers on the board with the first of her five triples. A Miller trey had the lead down to four (12-8) with 3:29 left in the first period, but Catholic rattled off a 6-0 run, all from the free throw line, to take its first double digit lead of the game near the end of the first.
The Cardinals started the second period as they did the first; with a scoring run. This 5-0 stint was again halted by Lane, who nailed another trey. With the Cardinals up 25-12, Lane heated up from deep with two consecutive three-pointers. Senior forward
Courtney Stephens hit a free throw to make it a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 25-19 approaching halftime. Lane traded baskets with the Cardinals over the next three minutes before Catholic ended the period on a 6-0 run to take a 37-24 lead into intermission.
Following another good start to a period by Catholic, the Rangers put together an 8-2 run in the third, capped by a Lane three-pointer. CUA kept its foot on the gas, however, maintaining a double-digit lead as Miller hit two free throws for Drew to end the period down 47-37.
Miller led the comeback attempt in the fourth with her third 3-pointer of the day with 9:05 to play in the game, cutting the Rangers' deficit to eight, the smallest it's been since midway through the second period. Another 7-0 run from the Cardinals extended the lead back to a comfortable zone, and Catholic coasted to the final score of 66-47.
The Rangers return to the hardwood on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Elizabethtown College. The Landmark Conference tilt is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
