TOWSON, Md. (Oct. 13, 2016) – The Drew University men's and women's swimming and diving teams have each been selected to finish fifth in the 2016-17 Landmark Conference Coaches Preseason Poll.
Â
The men received 23 points in the poll of seven teams, with the women taking 34 points in the eight-team conference.
Â
With the departure of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the Landmark will have a new champion in men's swimming and diving for the first time in 10 years. Susquehanna University earned 54 points and four first place votes to lead the poll. The Catholic University of America picked up the remaining three votes towards 51 tallies.
Â
On the women's side, Susquehanna earned 68 points and six first place votes to lead the poll. Catholic picked up the remaining two votes towards 60 tallies for second, while Scranton earned 43 points for third.
Â
Second-year head coach
Rich Munson brings in his first recruiting class, and a powerful one at that.
Jack Mahoney is a two-time All-American sprinter out of McDowell High School in Erie, Pennsylvania and
Michael Ma is a regional championship qualifying freestyler out of California. Returning for the Rangers are last year's MVP,
Mack Fox, in his sophomore year as a freestyle and breaststroke specialist, and junior
Logan Amodio, the program record holder in both the 100 and 200 Butterfly.
Â
The Ranger women feature a mix of decorated upperclassman and promising newcomers in 2016-17. Leading the experienced core will be senior
Jordan Jessup, who placed second in the finals of the 200-yard backstroke at the Landmark Championships last winter, and the dynamic junior
Jenny Stein, who made Second Team All-Conference in both 1-meter diving and the 100-yard backstroke events. Second-year head coach
Rich Munson's first recruiting class includes
Mal Vishwanath, one of India's fastest age-group swimmers in distance freestyle, and
Katie Jefferson, a Hawaii Island 100-yard butterfly champion.
Â
The Rangers open the 2016-17 season on Friday, Oct. 21 at home against Montclair State University at 5:00 p.m. in the F.M. Kirby Pool.
