MADISON, N.J. (Oct. 15, 2016) — The Drew University men's soccer team benefitted early with a highlight-reel strike from freshman forward
Andy Imoh to tie things up at 1-1, but would ultimately fall in overtime, 2-1, after an intense Landmark Conference battle with Susquehanna University on Saturday afternoon.
By the Numbers: With the loss, the Rangers dropped their very first conference game and lost for the first time in eight games overall. Their conference record is now 2-1-1 and their home record, 3-2-1. Susquehanna (6-7-2), meanwhile improves to 3-1-1 in the conference and 3-4-2 on the road.
Top Performers: Imoh netted the cracking, equalizing goal in the 49
th minute of play. Junior forward
Benjamin Audi returned to home turf with a team-high three shots, one of which was targeted on net. Sophomore defender
Marlon Rodriguez added a shot on goal of his own.
Turning Point: Susquehanna clinched victory with a heat-seeking banana shot that sliced through the crowd and caught the side of the net with just seconds remaining in the first overtime period. The goal came off of a corner kick that was cleared just out of the penalty box.
Other Highlights: With Drew trailing 1-0 in the 49
th minute, a Drew challenge saw the ball pinball out of the penalty box and squirt out of the scrum. There to collect was Imoh who wound up for a stinging strike that zoomed past defenders and teammates, alike, and into the left side netting. The equalizer was Imoh's team-high sixth score of the year.
Next Up: The Rangers will gear up for their final non-conference contest of the season when they take on Kean University on Wednesday, October 19
th at 7:00 p.m. After that, the final stretch begins with a home conference game with Catholic on Senior Day, a Moravian game, and the regular season finale on the road.
