MADISON, N.J. (Oct. 26, 2016) — The Drew University men's soccer team went the distance with Moravian College, with neither team registering a goal after 110 frigid minutes at Ranger Stadium.
Playoff Picture: The Rangers are quite close to clinching a playoff berth, and the odds are in their favor, but it will all come down to Saturday's finale at Goucher. If the Rangers beat or tie with the Gophers on the road, the Rangers clinch a playoff berth. If Drew were to lose, then it'd need Susquehanna University to defeat or tie with Moravian College on the road in order to clinch.
By the Numbers: The Rangers' third tie of the year brings their record to 9-4-3, 3-1-2 in the Landmark, and 4-3-3 at home. Moravian (7-4-3) is now at 2-2-2 in conference play.
Top Performers: Senior goalie
John Marques recorded three saves, logging all 110 minutes in the shutout, his sixth of the year.
Audi, freshman forward
Andy Imoh, and junior midfielder
Eduardo Martinez all tried two shots in the contest, each adding a shot on goal. Senior midfielder
Dylan Hammer added a team-high three shots, one on goal.
Close Calls: Junior forward
Benjamin Audi provided Drew's most significant scoring opportunity in the 72
nd minute. Senior midfielder
Joe Sollod flicked a cross on target and Audi soared into the zone and put a header on net, ringing the crossbar.
In the 80
th minute Moravian made a legitimate run to take the lead, but Marques, showing no ill effects of an inactive and frigid contest so far, made two consecutive sprawling stops to keep the contest locked at zeroes. He made a third for good measure but the shot taker was whistled offside, swinging momentum back in Drew's favor.
Stat Sheet: Drew took four shots on goal and Moravian took three. The Rangers drew seven corner kicks to Moravian's six and the Greyhounds forced 10 fouls while committing just seven of their own. Drew got whistled offside four times.
Up Next: The Rangers finish the regular season on the road on Saturday, October 29 at Goucher College at 3:30 p.m. in a win-and-they're-in scenario.
