MADISON, N.J. (Oct. 8, 2016) – A defensively dominated Landmark Conference contest slipped away from the Drew University field hockey team, who fell to visiting Juniata College 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Ranger Stadium.
By the Numbers: The Eagles improve to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while Drew falls to 2-8 and 0-2.
Turning Point: In a game of very few chances and stellar goalkeeping by Drew sophomore
Ryann Callaghan, the Eagles needed to capitalize on any chance that came their way. They did just that in the 45
th minute, when a 3-on-1 breakaway led to a strong shot from the top of the circle that snuck past the defensive line and into the side of the cage.
Other Highlights: Drew's backline prevented Juniata from taking the lead earlier in the contest thanks to some excellent plays in the first half, including Callaghan diving to disrupt an Eagles' breakaway and junior defender
Michele Pozyc's fifth defensive save of the season.
Stat Sheet: Juniata outshot Drew, 9-0, while putting five of those on target. The Eagles also held an advantage in penalty corners, 13-3.
Next Up: Landmark Conference play continues on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m. when Drew hosts The University of Scranton at Ranger Stadium.
