Connors' Clutch Goal Gives Drew 2-1 Win at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. (Oct. 8, 2016) — The Drew University women's soccer team stunned Juniata College on their home turf in the final seconds of regular time on Saturday afternoon, claiming a 2-1 victory in Landmark Conference play after junior Erin Connors' clutch goal.

By the Numbers: The Rangers move their record to 5-5-1 on the year and win their first Landmark game of the season to move to 1-1. The Eagles fall to 4-5-3 and 0-3 in league play. The victory marked the fourth time this season Drew has scored a game-winner in the final minute of play, including two Golden Goals in overtime.

Turning Point: Connors netted a rebound goal in the 90th minute of play to hand Drew the Landmark victory. Sophomore forward Alexis Castanheira was credited with the assist after her header was saved and sent back to the foot of Connors.

Top Performers: With the score knotted at 1-1 at halftime, senior goalkeeper Ryan Jackson started the second half and saved four shots to shut down the Eagles offense, including two during the final 10 minutes of play.

Junior defender Thalia Santacruz connected on a well-placed header in the 20th minute to give Drew the 1-0 lead off a corner kick by sophomore Caroline Kelly.

Stat Sheet: The Rangers' offensive efficiency made the difference on Saturday as Juniata outshot Drew, 15-5. Only five of the Eagles' shots were on goal, while Drew put 4-of-5 on target and two of those into the back of the net. Jackson improves to 4-2-1 in goal for the Rangers.

Up Next: The Rangers travel to The University of Scranton for another important Landmark Conference matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m.
