Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Drew Moves to ECAC Quarters With 3-1 Win Over NYU

CAMDEN, N.J. (Nov. 12, 2016) – A trio of Drew University men's soccer players scored in a 3-1 victory over third-seeded New York University on Saturday, sending the Rangers to the ECAC Championship Quarterfinals on Sunday at top-seed Rutgers-Camden.

By the Numbers: The Rangers, the No. 2 seed in Region 1 of the ECAC Championship, improve to 11-5-3 overall with their second win of the season over NYU (9-8-2). Drew has now outscored the Violets 5-1 this season. Drew moves to 26-14-3 all-time in ECAC postseason competition.

Top Performers: Seniors Dylan Hammer and Ian Pavlak, and sophomore Anthony McMyne accounted for Drew's goals, while freshman goalkeeper Jason Adamo made six saves to pick up his first collegiate victory in net. Adamo finished just 32 seconds shy of recording his first shutout.

Turning Point: Drew withstood early pressure from NYU, and in an increasingly chippy game with 36 total fouls and eight total cards, the first goal scored would loom large. That tally came off the foot of McMyne in the 27th minute. Junior forward Benjamin Audi and freshman forward Andy Imoh picked up assists on the play as Audi's cross was flicked on by Imoh to McMyne, who finished in the right side netting.

Other Highlights: The Rangers methodically tacked on to their lead despite playing with 10 men following a red card right before halftime. Pavlak got his first goal of the season in the 42nd minute by tapping in a free kick service from sophomore Alexi Velazquez to the far post. Hammer then made it 3-0 in the 61st off a cross from senior midfielder Joe Sollod. It was Hammer's seventh goal of 2016.

NYU nearly got a goal back in the 47th minute, but a shot by Petter Aasa was denied on a backsave. With 16 minutes remaining in the game, a shot by Aasa went off the crossbar after Drew had taken a 3-0 lead on Hammer's goal.

Stat Sheet: Drew finished with a 17-15 edge in shots and a 3-2 lead in corner kicks. Pavlak and Imoh paced the offense with two shots on goal apiece.

Up Next: Host and No. 1 seed Rutgers-Camden awaits in Sunday's quarterfinal at noon. The Scarlet Raptors (9-8-4) defeated No. 4 Hunter College, 3-1, in Saturday's first round contest.
