Men's Soccer Runner-Up in ECAC DIII Championship

ANNVILLE, Pa (Nov. 20, 2016) — The Drew University men's soccer team christened the newly formatted ECAC Division III Championship Game and took home runner-up hardware after falling to host Lebanon Valley College, 2-1, in the tournament's final game on Sunday afternoon.

The Rangers' setback came in a contest that saw a chance for them to become the first ECAC Division III solo champions. In past years, multiple regional champions were acknowledged, an honor Drew won in 1975, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997 and 2009. The Rangers are now 28-15-3 all-time in 24 ECAC postseason appearances.

Top Performers: Senior forward Dylan Hammer scored his final goal in Blue and Green to cut the deficit in half in the 79th minute. The goal was his 19th career goal, 47th point, on his 121st career shot. Assisting was Hammers' classmate and friend, senior midfielder Joe Sollod. Who charged into the offensive zone and threaded a seeing-eye ground ball to Hammer, who buried the one touch chance.

The assist was Sollod's 13th of his career. The goal was Hammer's 19th. Serendipitously, Sollod wears number 19 and Hammer wears 13. The connection was the last of their collegiate careers.

Freshman forward Andy Imoh tried a team-high four shots on goals, while junior forward Benjamin Audi took five total shots.

Turning Point: Lebanon Valley only waited until the eight-minute mark to score and did so when a forward came streaking down the sideline, served a ball into the box that got converted for a one-touch score. The shutout-breaking score was aided by another in the 60th minute, insurance the Dutchman wound up needing.

Other Highlights: Freshman goalie Jason Adamo saved a penalty shot in the 83rd minute to keep the deficit at one. Audi also attempted a desperation equalizer in the 85th, but it was blocked by a defender.

Stat Sheet: Drew outshot the Dutchman 14-12, but the opposition put nine shots on goal, while Drew put six on. The teams lined up for seven corners each.
