WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Nov. 22, 2016) – The Drew University men's basketball team went on the road for the first of four straight road games, falling to King's (Pa.) College 99-80 on Tuesday evening in non-conference action.
By the Numbers: The Rangers drop to 1-2 in their first road contest of the season. The Monarchs move to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in McGrane Gymnasium.
Top Performers: Sophomore center
Nate Aldrich led the Rangers with 15 points and seven rebounds, adding an assist and two blocks. Sophomore guard
Darius Reiter tied his career high with 14 points on two 3-pointers and a 4-of-4 mark from the free throw line, while freshman guard
Riley Collins trailed only Aldrich in minutes played (31) and totaled 12 points and five assists.
Turning Point: Early in a game packed with offensive fireworks, the Rangers traded leads with King's through the first 10 minutes. Drew went on a 7-0 run with a Collins three-pointer and two baskets by junior forward
Blaine Taylor to take a 28-24 lead with 7:38 to play in the first half. However, the Monarchs answered with a 14-2 run over the next four minutes to regain the advantage 38-30, a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest.
Highlights
• Junior guard
Yonathan Napoleon fell one short of his career high with seven assists, and added nine points on 4-of-6 shooting.
• Sophomore forward
Chatham Studer made a quick impact, scoring eight points on a 4-of-5 mark from the field in just eight minutes played.
Stat Sheet: Nearly half of Drew's points were scored in the paint (42), leading to a season-high shooting percentage of .508. King's was even more accurate from everywhere on the court, firing 57% from the field, 54% from three and 74% from the line. The Monarchs padded their lead with a strong performance on the boards, outrebounding the Rangers 35-28, including 11 offensive boards leading to 20 second chance points.
