Rangers Pledge Yards to the One Love Foundation

MADISON, N.J. (Nov. 3, 2016) – The Drew University Rangers are measuring their yards during workouts and games this year, and pledging them to the One Love Foundation to bring awareness to dating violence.

A group of senior civic scholars have made it their mission to bring the Drew community together to eliminate relationship violence. The Rangers are committing to learn the signs of dating violence and how to use the resources available for those experiencing the signs. Drew's support of the One Love Foundation will be demonstrated through Yards for Yeardley. Each team pledges to log one million yards in memory of Yeardley Love, a student-athlete who passed away as a result of dating violence in 2010.

Kelsey Oeler (women's fencing), Jeff Van Grouw (men's soccer) and Courtney Trzasko (women's basketball) are leading the project, which has already gained commitments from 17 teams and clubs at Drew. One million yards is equal to 568 miles. In addition, each team will dedicate one of their home events to further raise awareness of the cause and promote a post on social media using #yardsforyeardley.

The next One Love event at Drew will take place on Sunday, Nov. 6 for the Drew Fall Fencing Classic, the season opener for both the men's and women's fencing teams in the Simon Forum.

Each team is tracking their progress toward the goal on a shared website, where you can see their yardage and their upcoming One Love game day.
