Rangers Can't Overcome Early Deficit at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Nov. 30, 2016) – The Drew University women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest at Vassar College, 67-48, on Wednesday evening.
 
By the Numbers: The Rangers' record falls to 2-3 after their first road loss of the year. The Brewers up their overall mark to 3-3 with their first home win in three tries.
 
Top Performers
Junior point guard Michaela Keegan continues to be tasked with generated more offense, and she again impressed in her new role. The Rangers' floor general sank a career-high five field goals on seven attempts, leading to 12 points. She made both of her free throw tries and added two steals.
• Senior forward Sam Lane paced the Rangers with 14 points, while pitching in six rebounds and three steals.
 
Turning Point: Vassar made the first two buckets of the game and quickly built a 10-point lead by the seven-minute mark of the first quarter. Later in the second quarter, the Brewers used an 8-0 run on the strength of two 3-pointers to take a 39-24 lead into halftime.
 
Highlights
The Rangers' best run came during the bridge from the third to fourth period, when solid free throw shooting by sophomore Hailey Stine and senior Hannah Miller, coupled with a layup by junior Ally Raulf to close out the third, made up an 8-2 run. The Rangers trailed, 53-41, with 9:05 to play in the game.
• Raulf led the Rangers on the boards with seven rebounds, including four on the offensive end.
• For the fourth straight game, Drew lowered its turnover count, committing a season-low nine at Vassar.

While playing catchup for most of the contest, the Rangers' ace up the sleeve – the three-point shot – couldn't get going on Wednesday. Drew was 0-of-12 from beyond the arc. Vassar, meanwhile, was accurate from the floor shooting 49 percent overall and 40 percent from three.
• The Brewers also controlled the game down low with a 43-27 advantage on the boards and nine second-chance points.
