MADISON, N.J. (Feb. 10, 2016) – Despite shooting more effectively, the Drew University men's basketball team (10-13, 7-7) ultimately fell to the visiting Moravian College, 84-76, on Wednesday night in Baldwin Gym.
Â
Senior guard
Kevin Herring II drilled all six of his 3-pointers in the first half en route to a 29-point evening. That offensive output is the most the guard has scored all season as Herring II went 10-of-17 from the field. Senior guard
Mike Klinger pitched in 17 points in the setback in his final game in Baldwin Gymnasium. Junior forward
Jonathan Allegrezza turned in a nine-point, five-rebound effort.
Â
The loss puts the Rangers at 7-7 in the conference and, as of now, out of the playoffs. Drew is a half-game out of contention with Juniata holding down the four spot with a 7-6 record. The Eagles have three games remaining including an important match with The United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon. USMMA is a half-game out of the No. 4 spot as well with a 6-6 record. Saturday's contest will serve to break the teams up. Drew, meanwhile, has two games left, one against second place and nationally ranked Susquehanna University and the season finale against last place Elizabethtown College. Both will be road games.
Â
The action Wednesday night was relatively even with Drew shooting 46-percent from the field and Moravian (3-10, 8-13), 45.5-percent. Drew had five fewer rebounds and turned the ball over two more times than the Greyhounds.
Â
The five-minute mark was where Moravian pulled away down the stretch. The Greyhounds used a 10-2 run that took nearly all of the remaining time to propel themselves to the victory with Drew resorting to fouling and the Greyhounds doing their part at the charity stripe.
Â
The Susquehanna-Drew game is on Saturday, Feb. 13 in Selinsgrove, Pa. It is slated for a 2:00 p.m. tip.
