MADISON, N.J. (March 29, 2016) – The Drew University softball team (6-10) opened its 2016 home slate by dropping both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against Stockton University (12-4) on Tuesday afternoon, 9-0 and 7-4.
Â
Top Performers: Freshman third baseman
Sammie Booth was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in Game 2, while junior shortstop
Meghan McGuire and sophomore designated player
Brooke Adams each batted 2-for-4 in the second game of the twin bill. Junior right fielder
Phylicia Pellot picked up a hit in each contest, and sophomore
Heather Ronchi went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three walks during the doubleheader.
Â
Rangers Rally: In inning three of Game 2, Booth picked up a two-out RBI single, capping a two-run inning after Adams scored earlier on a failed pickoff play. In the bottom of the sixth and down 7-2, Drew put together a two-out rally that produced two runs on three hits. Ronchi delivered the big hit, a two-run single up the middle to cut the Stockton lead to 7-4.
Â
Other Highlights: The Rangers totaled 10 hits and six walks against Ospreys pitching in Game 2, with freshman catcher
Alexarae Rizzo getting a hit with a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the third. Rizzo's base hit was laced hard up the middle, giving the Stockton defense enough time to erase the runner with a play at third base.
