WomenHILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 7, 2016) – The Drew University men's and women's tennis teams each won their openers at the PTR Spring TennisFest in South Carolina on Monday morning, with the men defeating Emory & Henry College, 7-2, and the women sweeping Delaware Valley College, 9-0.

The Ranger men improve to 2-0 on the season with the 7-2 victory, which had two wins by way of default. Senior
Adam Clark and freshman
Vineet Vemulapally again showed good chemistry at first doubles, winning 8-3.
Will Morrison and
Chris Morville also won their No. 2 doubles match, 8-3, as Drew took a 3-0 lead after doubles play.

Vemulapally remained perfect in singles play to start his collegiate career. He won his No. 2 singles match (6-1, 6-1) to improve to 3-0 this season. Morrison and junior
Erdi Demirbulakli also won in straight sets to cap the Spring Break opener victory.

The women were flawless on Monday, dropping only 10 games in singles play. The hardest test came at No. 1 doubles, where freshman
Ty Ty Nguyen and junior
Jessica Cheng teamed up for a gritty 9-7 win. Senior
Kirby Clark and junior
Megan Jarvis took care of their second doubles opponents, 8-1, while sophomores
Kathryn Swenor and
Andrea Defillo won at No. 3 doubles, 8-4.

Nguyen and Cheng parted way to take on singles competition and could not have been more successful. Nguyen at No. 1 and Cheng at No. 2 each won their matches 6-0, 6-0. Clark won at the third position (6-1, 6-0) while Swenor was victorious 6-0, 6-2.

Sophomore
Marta Muncharaz got her first singles win at the No. 6 spot and Defillo won at fifth singles to ice the Rangers' sweep.

The Rangers are back in action in Hilton Head on Wednesday, March 9 as the women face Baldwin Wallace University and the men take on Spring Arbor University.
