MADISON, N.J. (April 19, 2016) – The Drew University softball team scored a pair of shutouts, 8-0 and 15-0, in a doubleheader sweep of Lehman College at home on Tuesday afternoon. Drew moves its season record to 9-17, while the Lightning fall to 7-13.

Top Performers: Eight different Rangers picked up hits throughout the doubleheader, led by junior shortstop Meghan McGuire (5-for-6, four runs, four RBIs) and sophomore center fielder Heather Ronchi (4-for-7, four runs, five RBIs). Freshman starting pitcher Bethany Budner recorded the wins in both games, pitching a total of nine innings of scoreless softball and giving up four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.

Turning Point: The Rangers set the high-scoring tone early in each contest. Ronchi's RBI double and freshman catcher Alexarae Rizzo's run-scoring single gave Drew a 2-0 lead in the first inning of Game 1. Later in Game 2, defensive miscues helped the Rangers jump ahead 4-0 after one inning.

Other Highlights: Ronchi's 3-for-3 performance in Game 1 produced seven total bases on two doubles and a triple. Junior right fielder Phylicia Pellot paced the Rangers' 15-run attack in Game 2 with a 3-for-4 mark at the plate, three runs and an RBI. She also made a diving catch on a sinking liner and a quick throw into first base to record a double play in the first inning.

All Contact: In 56 total plate appearances on Tuesday, the Rangers did not strikeout once against Lightning pitching. Ronchi leads the Rangers in the toughest to strikeout category, going down on strikes only once in 78 at-bats this season. As of games played on April 14, that mark ranks 26th in NCAA Division III.

Up Next: The Rangers travel to New Jersey City University for a doubleheader on Thursday, April 21 at 3:00 p.m.
