WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 2, 2016) – The defending Landmark Conference champions defended their home turf on Saturday as the Drew University women's lacrosse team dropped a 21-11 contest at The Catholic University of America (4-6, 2-0).
Top Performers: Sophomore midfielder
Juliana Strazulo netted four goals to increase her season total to 18, while also adding an assist. Sophomore midfielders
Maddie Spiess and
Nicole Kinney each scored a pair in the Landmark Conference, and junior midfielder
Morgan Mason led the team in assists with two.
Second Half Run: The Rangers (2-8, 0-2) scored four straight goals in the second half within a span of 3:30. Mason's tally at 22:12 was followed by two straight by Strazulo before Spiess capped the scoring spurt with 19:40 to play in the game.
Other Highlights: Junior attackers
Theresa Shafron and
Kelly Dwyer each pitched in a goal. Freshman goalkeeper
Miranda Czymek made her second career start in between the pipes and made 11 saves.
Team Stats: Drew was 2-for-2 on free position shots, and trailed slightly in the groundball battle, 35-28. Catholic dominated the draw controls, 23-11, and executed a successful clearing percentage at 12-for-13.
