Drew Drops Both Ends of Doubleheader With E-Town

MADISON, N.J. (April 23, 2016) – A crucial Landmark Conference series began in the favor of Elizabethtown College, who swept a Saturday doubleheader 12-0, 4-1 over the Drew University baseball team at Doc Young Field.

Playoff Picture: After Saturday's league proceedings, the two losses drop the Rangers (15-20) into fifth place with an 8-9 record, on the outside looking in with four games to play. The University of Scranton is in fourth with a 9-8 record, and wraps up its series against first-place Susquehanna University on Sunday. Following Sunday's series finale against Elizabethtown, Scranton only remains on the 2016 Landmark schedule for the Rangers.

Top Performers: Senior first baseman Bobby Miskura (3-for-7) and junior right fielder Tommy Broyles (3-for-5) were the only Rangers to pick up hits in both games, while junior catcher Mike Miraglia drove in Drew's run in Game 2 with a hard liner to center field to plate senior second baseman Anthony Feltre, who doubled to lead off Drew's first inning.

Turning Point: Game 2 remained tied at 1-1 until a big sixth inning by the second-place Blue Jays (20-15, 11-6). The tie lasted in large part to a 1-2-3 double play turned by the Rangers with the bases loaded and no outs in the second inning, and then 11 straight sat down by junior starting pitcher Patrick Boyle.

Other Highlights: Sophomore center fielder Ryan Sabbag recorded the Rangers' third double of the game in Game 2. Freshman reliever Zach Luke allowed an inherited runner to score on a hit, but otherwise tossed two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Graduate student Jon Vilicich picked up his first collegiate base hit with a pinch-hit single in the seventh innings of Game 1.

Up Next: Drew will attempt to salvage the series finale with Elizabethtown on Sunday, April 24 at noon at Doc Young Field. The game will be broadcast live on the Drew Sports Network.
