Pellot Gets Hit #100; Softball Drops Two at NYU

BRONX, N.Y. (April 27, 2016) – Junior outfielder Phylicia Pellot recorded her 100th career hit as the Drew University softball team dropped a pair of games, 4-3 and 9-3, against New York University on Wednesday evening at Fordham University.

Records: The Rangers fall to 12-20 overall, while the Violet improve to 19-15.

Top Performers: Pellot reached the career milestone with a single in the top of the fifth inning in Game 1, and finished the day 3-for-8 with three runs and an RBI while extending a hitting streak to eight games. Sophomore Heather Ronchi finished the night 3-for-8 with an RBI in each contest, while sophomore left fielder Brooke Adams picked up a base hit in each game.

Key Moments: Down 4-0 entering the final inning of play, the Rangers put together a rally that left the tying run stranded on third base. Four hits and an NYU error produced three runs with Pellot and Ronchi driving in runs.

In Game 2, Pellot led off the second inning with a triple, and although she did score on a wild pitch during junior shortstop Meghan McGuire's at-bat, she would have scored easily anyway as McGuire tripled to deep left centerfield.

Other Highlights: Junior pitcher Emma Agostini gave the Rangers the chance to win in the seventh inning of Game 1 by producing a quality start of six innings with eight hits, no walks and two strikeouts.

Freshman first baseman Cara O'Leary earned another two starts and hit 2-for-3 with a run scored in Game 1 to increase her average to .360.

Up Next: The Rangers quickly return to action on the road Thursday, April 28 with a doubleheader at Hunter College beginning at 2:00 p.m. Drew concludes the regular season in the Landmark Conference finale on Saturday, April 30 with a doubleheader against The University of Scranton.
