Softball Splits at Hunter to Finish Non-League Play

NEW YORK, N.Y. (April 28, 2016) – The Drew University softball team wrapped up 2016 non-conference play on Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader split at Hunter College. The Rangers (13-21) won the opener, 5-3, before falling to the Hawks (14-14) in Game 2 in five innings, 11-3.

Top Performers: Junior pitcher Emma Agostini was victorious on the mound for Drew in Game 1, scattering seven hits over seven innings of work with three runs (two earned), three walks and four strikeouts. Agostini supported her own start offensively with a two-run single in the top of the fourth inning. She was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in the win.

With the bases loaded and the Rangers down 7-0 in the fifth inning of Game 2, sophomore Heather Ronchi ripped a bases clearing double to increase her RBI total to 25.

Turning Point: The Rangers' scored an important pair of runs in the sixth inning of the Game 1 victory at Hunter. Sophomore left fielder Brooke Adams led off with a single, her second of the game, before Agostini drew her walk. Following a productive out advancing the runners by sophomore Lauren Mastropierro, Adams and Agostini both scored on a passed ball and a subsequent error on the play.

Key Stats: Adams' two hits has her one shy of 2015's total of 29; junior shortstop Meghan McGuire was the only Ranger to hit in both contests; and freshman first baseman Cara O'Leary picked up a hit in Game 2 to run her average to .357, good for third on the squad.

Up Next: Drew concludes the regular season in the Landmark Conference finale on Saturday, April 30 with a doubleheader against The University of Scranton beginning at 1:00 p.m.
