Cleary Scores First Career Goal for Men's Lacrosse

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (April 5, 2016) – The Drew University men's lacrosse team fell in non-conference action at Vassar College (5-4) on Tuesday evening, 15-6.

Top Performers: Freshman midfielder Eduardo Palmieri scored a career-high two goals and rounded out a solid stat line with an assist, three groundballs and three caused turnovers, while junior midfielder Tom Cotroneo tied for the team-lead in goals this season with nine by scoring in his fifth straight contest.

The Turning Point: The Rangers' resurgence in the second half. Down 7-2 after the Brewers opened the second period with three consecutive goals, Drew scored three straight of its own to cut the deficit to 7-5. The Brewers, however, didn't let the Rangers get any closer by scoring five straight and eight of the final nine goals to seal the home victory.

Other Highlights: Senior faceoff specialist Kevin Cleary scored his first career goal in his 37th career game while dominating faceoffs with an 11-of-13 mark. Freshman attacker Thomas Ensmenger netted the fifth goal of his rookie campaign and senior attacker Ben Ludeman scored in the setback.

Stat Sheet: Junior defender Michael Lloyd picked up a game-high seven groundballs. The Rangers and Brewers were nearly even in shots taken at 38-32 in favor of Vassar, but the Brewers were more accurate with a 30-17 advantage in shots on goal. Drew won the groundball battle, 35-29, but were hurt by a 22-12 margin in turnovers and a 14-of-20 clear percentage.

Up Next: The Rangers continue a brief two-game road stint with a Landmark Conference contest at The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m.
