Drew Men's Soccer Edged 2-1 at Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 14, 2016) – In a contest full of physicality yet lacking in many offensive chances, the Drew University men's soccer team was edged 2-1 on the road at Muhlenberg College on Wednesday evening.

By the Numbers: Playing in their first road contest of the year, the Rangers fall to 3-2 overall in 2016. The Mules, meanwhile, improve to 2-3 overall and 1-1 at Varsity Field in Allentown.

Top Performers: The Rangers only managed eight shots in a defensively dominated game. Three of those were on goal, and one of those was launched into the back of the net by senior midfielder Joe Sollod. In the 30th minute, Sollod outhustled his defender to win a 50-50 ball before beating the Mules' goalkeeper to the left side of the net and equalizing the game at 1-1.

The marker was the second in as many games for Sollod, who now ranks third on the team with five points this fall.

Turning Point: The match remained scoreless for 17 minutes after halftime before Muhlenberg would take the lead for good in the 73rd minute. The Mules' Peter Luther scored his second goal of the game by settling a long pass, taking one touch and burying the ball into the left side netting.

Other Highlights: Freshman forward Andy Imoh started the second half and put immediate pressure on the Mules' backline. He took two shots within the first five minutes of the second half that needed saving by the Muhlenberg goalkeeper.

Stat Sheet: Drew ended up outshooting Muhlenberg, 8-6. In the shot-on-goal department, however, the Mules came out on top, 4-3. Drew conceded the advantage in corner kicks, 8-5, while also being flagged for more offsides calls, 3-2.

Up Next: The Rangers remain on the road Saturday, Sept. 17 for a non-conference match at Manhattanville College beginning at noon.
