HOBOKEN, N.J. (Sept. 28, 2016) — The Drew University field hockey team traveled to Hoboken for an intrastate non-conference matchup with Stevens Institute of Technology that it would drop 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
By the Numbers: Drew's overall record dropped to 2-6 while Stevens' record improved to 6-3. Drew's road record took a hit, dropping the Rangers under .500 to 1-2. Stevens is still undefeated at home with an impressive 5-0 record.
Top Performers: Junior midfielder
Madi Sheetz took a team high two shots in the setback, one of which made it on goal. Sophomore defender
Kate Todero took a shot and notched two defensive saves in the contest bringing her season total to three. Todero has added a new facet to her game that has made her more defensive and an important asset to the backline.
Turning Point: Just 30 seconds into the game Stevens scored a goal, which would turn out to be all they'd need to win it.
Other Highlights: Sheetz's shot on goal looked promising but was deflected away with an impressive defensive save from a Ducks' defender. Senior forward
Huma Sheikh tried a shot so powerful that it broke through the defensive front and made it to the front of the net before it was kicked away by the Ducks' net minder.
Stat Sheet: Drew spent a significant amount of the second half in the offensive zone, lining up for five penalty corners compared to one in the first half.
Sophomore goaltender
Ryann Callaghan made nine saves, bringing her season total to 93. Callaghan stands at second in the conference in saves.
