Drew Bested, Passed in Standings by Susquehanna

MADISON, N.J. (Jan. 21, 2017) – The Drew University women's basketball team hosted Susquehanna University on Saturday at Baldwin Gymnasium, but fell 56-39, in the Landmark Conference matchup.

By the Numbers: The Rangers drop into fifth place in the Landmark with a 3-3 record, and a 7-9 overall mark. Moravian, with a win over Juniata, stands alone in third place. The loss draws Drew and Susquehanna, which has a 12-5 overall record, even with each other in the conference, but with Susquehanna in possession of the season series, it has the fourth spot of the Landmark standings for now. Drew falls to 5-6 in Baldwin Gym, while the River Hawks improve to 5-2 on the road.

Top Performers
• Senior guard Hannah Miller grabbed six rebounds, matching her season high.
• Senior forward Ryan Jackson led the team with 10 points and eight rebounds.
• Junior center Ally Raulf turned in six points and six rebounds and junior guard Michaela Keegan notched six points, six assists, and six rebounds.

Highlights
• The Rangers spent the entirety of the first half playing from behind, expending their energy minimizing damage rather than mounting an offensive attack. Frustration mounted and culminated in a 27-17 halftime score in favor of the River Hawks, that Susquehanna lead would expand and hold until the final whistle.
• Needing a spark, the Rangers called on freshman guard Lisa Cappiello, complimented her tenacious defense with a quick five points in the third quarter. She popped a quick 3 and on the ensuing possession, cut into the lane, and flipped in a quick layup.
• Susquehanna went on a 9-0 run toward the end of the second half that gave the River Hawks the insurance they'd need to finish off the contest.
• Susquehanna was present on the offensive boards all day, they only out-rebounded Drew 41-32, and symbolically locked in the victory when they rebounded a missed free throw and ran out the clock.
• The plays run by the River Hawks appeared more mature, multi-dimensional, and complex. They used off-ball screens to create space and ran swift, almost instantaneous pick and rolls, which led to easy baskets.

Stat Sheet
• Drew managed a 31-percent shooting mark from the field, bested by the River Hawks' 41.
• The River Hawks' depth was on display, as they garnered 18 points from bench players and featured eight different scorers.
• Susquehanna converted on the fast break five times while Drew never found such an opportunity.

Up Next: The Rangers will host the College of Staten Island on Monday, January 23rd at 7:00 p.m. The tilt will serve as the Rangers' non-conference finale and a potential jumping off point for the final stretch of Landmark contests.
