Rangers Battle Hard In 5-0 Loss at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. -  The Drew University field hockey team wrapped up its three-game road trip by visiting Landmark Conference-leading Scranton on Wednesday night.  Despite 14 saves by Ryann Callaghan (Fountain Valley, Calif.), the Rangers (0-11, 0-4 Landmark) dropped a 5-0 decision to the undefeated Royals (13-0, 4-0 Landmark) at Fitzpatrick Field.

Elizabeth Tolley gave Scranton an early lead in the seventh minute, then Meredith Campbell scored twice to give the Royals a 3-0 lead at the 22-minute mark.  The teams played relatively evenly from that point on, though, as Drew had several solid scoring opportunities, including a three-shot flurry in the 53rd minute.

However, the Rangers were unable to sneak one past Scranton goalkeepers Jenna Cyr and Claire McAllister.  The Royals then added two late tallies to wrap up a 5-0 win.

Callaghan (0-9) returned after missing two games due to injury and stopped 14 of Scranton's 24 shots.  Mackenzie Hascup (Boonton, N.J.) notched a defensive save, as well.

Campbell finished with two goals and an assist for the Royals.  Tolley had a goal and an assist, while Hailey Marini and Annie Amentler were the other goal scorers.  Cyr (11-0) started in goal and earned the win.  McAllister played the second half and recorded a pair of saves.

After playing five out of six on the road, the Rangers return home for each of their next three contests.  Drew welcomes Susquehanna (6-7, 1-3 Landmark) to Ranger Stadium for a 1 p.m. tilt on Saturday.
