Rangers Fall to #12 Catholic On Senior Day

MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University field hockey team honored seniors Michele Pozyc (Clark, N.J.) and Madi Sheetz (Macungie, Pa.) prior to Saturday's game against No. 12 Catholic.  The Rangers (0-13, 0-6 Landmark) were unable to send them off with a victory, though, as the Cardinals (13-2, 6-0 Landmark) registered a 5-0 triumph at Ranger Stadium.

It was an even matchup until the Cardinals scored two goals a minute apart to take a 2-0 lead that they would carry into halftime.  Catholic made it 3-0 early in the second half, then added a pair of late tallies to account for the 5-0 margin.

Drew was outshot 51-1, but goalkeeper Ryann Callaghan (Fountain Valley, Calif.) (0-11) made 24 saves.  Pozyc recorded the 50th defensive save of her career, extending her program career record, while Mackenzie Hascup (Boonton, N.J.) and Madyson Griswold (Byram, N.J.) each added a defensive save.

Rachel Day tallied two goals and an assist for Catholic, which clinched a home game in the Landmark semifinals.  Marisa Martinelli, Carly Philbin and Rachel Baca each scored a goal for the Cardinals, as well.  Goalkeeper Sophia Hamilton (13-2), meanwhile, made one save in the win.

There is one home game remaining on the Rangers' schedule.  Drew concludes non-conference play by welcoming William Paterson (2-13) to Ranger Stadium at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
