MADISON, N.J. –
For the first time since 2008, the Drew University women's basketball team is the Rose City Classic champions.  The Rangers (2-0) clinched the title in their home tournament with an 81-58 victory over Widener (1-1) at Baldwin Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.  Hailey Stine (Annandale, N.J.) was named tournament MVP after notching a game-high 21 points to go along with four rebounds.

Drew led from wire-to-wire for the second straight game.  The Rangers scored the first six points of the contest and held an 8-2 advantage midway through the first quarter.  After Widener pulled within 8-7, a Stine trey ignited an 8-0 run that brought the margin to nine points, 16-7, and it was 18-10 at the end of the opening period.

Widener started the second quarter on an 8-2 spurt to get back within two, 20-18, before Drew quickly pushed its cushion back to six on layups by Michaela Keegan (Mendham, N.J.) and Stine.  The Pride again cut their deficit to two at 29-27, but Erin Frederick (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored four straight points to make it 33-27 with 1:21 left in the first half.

After taking a 37-29 lead into the locker room, the Rangers rattled off the first 11 points of the second half, pushing their advantage to 48-29.  The margin reached 23 points at 57-34 at the 2:03 mark of the third quarter, and Drew went into the final period with a 59-41 edge.  Drew extended its cushion to a game-high 32 points, 79-47, midway through the fourth quarter before Widener ended the contest on an 11-2 run to make the final difference 23 points, 81-58.

Stine paced four Rangers in double-figures, while Julia Ramos (Hazlet, N.J.) had a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists.  She also registered five steals.  Frederick finished with 14 points and seven rebounds.  Moe Davis Campbell (Franklin, N.J.) contributed 11 points, and Ally Raulf (Stewartsville, N.J.) grabbed seven boards.  Drew shot 50.8 percent (30-of-59) from the field, 40 percent (4-of-10) from three-point range, and 77.3 percent (17-of-22) at the free throw line.

Madison Ireland notched a double-double for Widener, tallying 13 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists.  Nikki Petri added 11 points, while Allison Gallagher posted nine points and three steals.  Kyra Schenk pulled down eight boards for the Pride, who outrebounded the Rangers 41-39.  Widener shot 30.6 percent (19-of-62) from the floor, 20 percent (5-of-25) from downtown, and 57.7 percent (15-of-26) at the charity stripe.

Joining Stine on the all-tournament team were Ramos, Ireland, Wilson's Jordyn Day and Olivia Bolden of Albertus Magnus.  Albertus Magnus beat Wilson 79-63 in the consolation game.

The Rangers return to action on Tuesday night, when Penn State Berks (0-1) visits Baldwin Gymnasium at 6 p.m.  It will be the opener of a doubleheader, as the Drew men's team hosts Vermont Tech (6-1) at 8 p.m.
