Rangers Notch Third Straight Wire-to-Wire Win

MADISON, N.J. – Through three games this season, the Drew University women's basketball team has not trailed.  The Rangers (3-0) recorded their third consecutive wire-to-wire victory to begin the season on Tuesday night, cruising past Penn State Berks (1-2) 75-37 at Baldwin Gymnasium.  With the win, Drew improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2013-14.
 
Drew scored the first nine points of the game and led 16-1 midway through the first quarter.  The Rangers went up 20-3 on a Moe Davis Campbell (Franklin, N.J.) layup with 30 seconds left in the period, and held a 20-5 advantage after one.  Penn State Berks cut it to 13 at 30-17 with 2:20 remaining before halftime, but Drew ended the half on a 10-0 run take a 40-17 cushion into the locker room.
 
It was more of the same in the third quarter, as the Rangers outscored the Nittany Lions 22-7 in the period to increase the margin to 62-24.  The lead reached a game-high 39 points when Lisa Cappiello's (Staten Island, N.Y.) trey made it 65-26 early in the fourth quarter, and Drew won its third straight by a comfortable 75-37 count.
 
Hailey Stine (Annandale, N.J.) led three Rangers in double-figures with 12 points.  Davis Campbell added 11 points and seven rebounds, while Erin Frederick (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished with 11 points and three blocks.  Julia Ramos (Hazlet, N.J.) tallied nine points to go along with six assists and six steals, and Michaela Keegan (Mendham, N.J.) contributed eight points, three assists and two blocks.  Bree Scotti (Cranford, N.J.), meanwhile, grabbed a team-best eight boards.  All 12 Rangers who appeared in the game had at least one rebound, as Drew held a 49-36 advantage on the glass.  The Rangers shot 45.7 percent (32-of-70) from the field, 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from long range, and 66.7 percent (6-of-9) at the free throw line.
 
Kylie Herman and Melissa Martin led the Nittany Lions with nine points apiece.  Herman also tallied seven rebounds and three steals.  Abbie Carr, meanwhile, pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.  Penn State Berks shot 25.5 percent (14-of-55) from the floor, 15.4 percent (2-of-13) from downtown, and 43.8 percent (7-of-16) at the charity stripe.
 
The Rangers hit the road for the first time this season on Sunday afternoon, when they visit Wesleyan (2-1) at 2 p.m.
