Drew Knocks Off Lebanon Valley In Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – On Thursday morning, the Drew University women's basketball team (6-4) concluded the Daytona Beach Shootout with a 63-55 win over Lebanon Valley (8-5) at the Ocean Center.  The Rangers went 10-for-14 at the free throw line down the stretch to turn a tie game into an eight-point triumph.

It was a 46-46 contest midway through the fourth quarter when Julia Ramos (Hazlet, N.J.) drained a trey to put Drew in front.  Michaela Keegan (Mendham, N.J.) then hit a layup to make it a five-point game, 51-46.  A Moe Davis Campbell (Franklin, N.J.) layup with 2:37 remaining would prove to be the Rangers' last basket of the game, as Drew's final 10 points all came at the charity stripe.  Hailey Stine (Annandale, N.J.) capped the scoring with 24 seconds left in the 63-55 victory.

Stine led the Rangers with 20 points, while Davis Campbell had her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-best 11 rebounds.  Keegan finished with 16 points, five boards and three steals, and Ramos contributed eight points to go along with four rebounds and three steals.  Sarah Henig (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.), meanwhile, grabbed five boards for the Rangers.  Drew shot 38.9 percent (21-of-54) from the field, 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from long range, and 69.2 percent (18-of-26) at the charity stripe.

After the teams traded baskets early on, Lebanon Valley used an 8-4 run to open up a 16-12 advantage.  Erin Frederick (Staten Island, N.Y.) followed with a layup before Stine hit a jumper to tie the score at 16-16 with 1:14 left in the quarter.  Lebanon Valley scored the final three points of the period to go up 19-16.  However, the Rangers held the Dutchmen to just five points in the second quarter, giving them a 27-24 halftime lead.

Lebanon Valley hit a three to start the third quarter, but the Rangers immediately responded with five straight points to regain a 32-27 edge.  After the Dutchmen took the lead, 35-34, with 1:41 left in the period, Davis Campbell countered with a jumper on the other end to put Drew back in front.  Stine sank a three-pointer as time expired in the quarter to give the Rangers a 41-37 advantage entering the final stanza.

The Dutchmen opened the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run to pull ahead 44-43.  However, on the ensuing Drew possession, Stine was fouled while shooting a three, and she drained all three free throws to put the Rangers back in front, 46-44.  Lebanon Valley then tied it on an Anne Lehr jumper at the 4:41 mark.

Morgan Bamberger was the only Dutchman in double figures with 14 points.  She added five rebounds.  Veronica Venezia contributed eight points, while Lehr distributed eight assists.  Becky Evans had seven assists and Caroline Scarff notched six rebounds for Lebanon Valley, which shot 31.6 percent (18-of-57) from the floor.  The Dutchmen were 5-for-17 (29.4 percent) from downtown and 14-for-18 (77.8 percent) at the foul line.

The Rangers will take a week-long holiday break before returning to action.  Drew visits John Jay (0-9) at 2 p.m. on Dec. 30 for its final game of 2017.
