Rangers Snap Skid With 63-47 Win at Centenary

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – After playing five of its first six at home, the Drew University women's basketball team began a five-game road trip at Centenary on Wednesday night.  The Rangers (4-3) trailed after one period, but outscored the Cyclones (2-5) 40-25 over the second and third quarters en route to a 63-47 victory at the Reeves Center.  With the win, Drew snapped a three-game losing streak.

Centenary scored the first five points of the game and opened up a six-point cushion, 14-8, with 2:41 remaining in the first quarter.  However, Lisa Cappiello (Staten Island, N.Y.) drained a trey and Moe Davis Campbell (Franklin, N.J.) added a layup to trim the Rangers' deficit to one, 14-13, at the end of the period.

Julia Ramos (Hazlet, N.J.) then started the second quarter with a pair of free throws and a trey to put Drew in front 18-14.  The lead reached 10 points when two Erin Frederick (Staten Island, N.Y.) foul shots made it 30-20 at the 3:56 mark, and the Rangers took a six-point advantage, 35-29, into the locker room.

Drew opened the third quarter on a 15-3 run to extend the margin to 50-32 before Centenary scored seven of the next 10 points to pull within 53-39 at the end of the period.  However, the Rangers outscored the Cyclones 10-0 over the first 5:26 of the fourth quarter to open up their largest lead of the game, a 24-point, 63-39 advantage.  Centenary then tallied the final eight points of the contest to make the final margin 16 points, 63-47.

Ramos led the Rangers with 15 points and four assists.  Frederick contributed 13 points and three steals, while Davis Campbell recorded 11 points and seven rebounds.  Sarah Henig (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) added seven points and seven boards for Drew, which shot 40 percent (24-of-60) from the field.  The Rangers went just 3-for-18 (16.7 percent) from three-point land, but were 12-for-14 (85.7 percent) at the free throw line.

For Centenary, Rachel Edwards posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.  Nicole Cardaino recorded 13 points and six rebounds, while Amber Reisenwitz and Danika Brandt each handed out three assists.  The Cyclones shot 38.5 percent (15-of-39) from the floor, 33.3 percent (3-of-9) from long range, and 58.3 percent (14-of-24) at the charity stripe.  Centenary outrebounded Drew 34-31.

The Rangers conclude a stretch of four games in seven days with a 6 p.m. matchup at Cedar Crest (2-5) on Friday.
