Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener at Montclair State

MONTCLAIR, N.J. (Feb. 21, 2017) – The Drew University women's lacrosse team opened the 2017 season with a 15-4 loss at Montclair State University on a chilly Tuesday evening.
 
By the Numbers
The Rangers start the season 0-1, while the Red Hawks begin 1-0 and improve to 9-8 in the all-time head-to-head series dating back to 1980.
 
Top Performers
Junior midfielder Nicole Kinney netted a pair of goals on free position shots to lead the Rangers, while also taking a team-high three shots to go with a caused turnover and a draw control.
 
Turning Point
Senior captain Kelly Dwyer scored the Rangers' first goal of the season 10 minutes in to cut the Red Hawk lead to 3-1. Drew threatened again over the next two minutes, but Montclair would have an answer with four unanswered goals to close out the first half up 7-1.
 
Highlights
• Senior attacker Anna Fiorini notched her first goal of 2017 in the waning minutes of the contest after freshman midfielder Allie DiDario scooped up a ground ball and started the fast break. Fiorini finished the break charging straight toward goal and burying a shot for the Rangers' fourth tally of the evening.
• DiDario shined in her collegiate premiere, collecting a team-high five ground balls, causing two turnovers and controlling two draws.
• Freshman goalkeeper Isabella Kudas made her Drew debut in the second half, making six saves.

• The Rangers managed 12-of-20 on the clear compared to Montclair's 16-of-18.
