MADISON, N.J. (Feb. 27, 2017) — The Drew University women's lacrosse team came out firing in Monday's home opener, defeating DeSales University 17-6 in an impressive offensive showing at Ranger Stadium.

The Rangers win their first game of 2017 and move to 1-1 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 0-2 in their inaugural season.
Top Performers
• Junior attacker
Sage Johnson achieved a career-high scoring five goals, including the first two of the game and her first goal of the season. Johnson contributed an assist as well.
• Senior attacker
Theresa Shafron collected a hat trick, using only four shots to notch her fifth career three-goal game. The attacker also assisted on a score.
• Senior attacker
Anna Fiorini recorded three assists for the seventh time in her career. All of her assists came in the second half. Her two goals came in the first period.
• Senior midfielder
Morgan Mason and junior midfielder
Nicole Kinney both added a pair of goals to the cause, with Kinney also shining defensively with team-high marks of five caused turnovers and six groundballs.
Key Highlights
• Johnson opened the scoring with two quick goals. For number one, Johnson used a swift back door cut to get open right in front of the net. Immediately, she flipped in the centering pass from Shafron.
• Shafron was responsible on the game's first three scores and Drew would add one more before DeSales could respond. Drew would then answer on a 6-0 run to put the game out of reach by the end of the first half up 10-2.
• Freshman midfielder
Jenna Morelli netted her first career goal with 10 minutes left when she wiggled her way in front of the net off a dead sprint. Morelli did well to maintain possession of the ball, dodge defenders sticks and convert the unassisted try. Morelli added a second goal, the Rangers' final tally with 1:23 remaining.

• The Rangers took an even 30 shots, 17 of which found the back of the net.
• Drew scooped 26 ground balls to DeSales' 18.
• The Rangers caused 14 turnovers and yielded just five of their own. Many of the Bulldogs' turnover came on the clear (8-of-19), while Drew countered with a 13-of-17 mark on the clear.
• Drew went 3-for-4 on free position tries while DeSales converted 4-of-9.
