Dual Meet Results | NYU Invitational Diving Results
MADISON, N.J. (Feb. 4, 2017) – It was an eventful day for the Drew University men's and women's swimming & diving teams, ranging from a Senior Day victory, a historic first and a national qualifier.
Â
By the Numbers: The women defeated Ramapo College, 134-116, in their final dual meet of the 2016-17 season. The men fell to the Roadrunners, 146-114. The 2016-17 season becomes the first time in 15 years both the men's and women's teams finish the dual meet season with a winning record.
Â
On to Regionals: The women gained an important dual meet victory despite head coach
Rich Munson sacrificing one of his best swimmers. Munson sent junior
Jenny Stein to the New York University Invitational for an attempt to qualify for NCAA championship season in diving, and she did just that in record breaking fashion.
Â
Stein moves on to the NCAA Regional Championships at Ithaca College by posting a second qualifying score in the 1-meter dive. Her score of 424.25 smashed her previous school record on the 1-meter board (11 dives) of 382.75. She also broke her own school record on the 3-meter board (11 dives) with a score of 395.7.
Â
Senior Salute: Seniors
Jordan Jessup and
Peter Mari were honored as part of Senior Day on Saturday. Following a pre-meet ceremony highlighted by career snapshots, flowers, leis and posters, Jessup and Mari made a splash in the F.M. Kirby Pool for the final time.
Â
Jessup's final race was a winning one, swimming the leadoff leg for the first place 200-yard freestyle relay and cementing Drew's dual meet win. She also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke and third in the 50-yard freestyle. In a metaphorical passing of the torch, Jessup tied for second in the 200-yard backstroke with freshman teammate
Jamie Riffel, both of which finished just twelve-hundredths of a second behind freshman teammate
Stephanie Cushman.
Â
Mari finished fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke, edging a Ramapo competitor by fifteen-hundredths of a second to earn important points for the Rangers in the dual meet. He finished his final home meet by competing in the 200-yard medley relay, the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley.
Â
History Made: Also at the NYU Invitational, junior
Mitchell Fry became a school record holder by posting the first-ever score in Drew men's diving history on the 1-meter board.
