Women's Lacrosse Drops Battle of Madison Ave. to FDU, 12-8

MADISON, N.J. (March 22, 2017) – The Drew University women's lacrosse team dropped the 2017 chapter of the Battle of Madison Avenue to FDU-Florham, 12-8, on a frigid and blustery Wednesday afternoon at Ranger Stadium.

By the Numbers: FDU-Florham claims the cross-street rivalry for the third consecutive season and win their third game in a row in 2017 to push its record to 4-1. The Rangers drop their second straight and fall to 5-3 on the season with their first home loss of the season.

Top Performers
• Senior attacker Kelly Dwyer was the lone Ranger to score multiple goals, netting two in the setback on just two shots. Dwyer scored on a free position attempt midway through the first half to cut a Devils lead to 3-2, then scored the final goal of the game with 1:02 left.
• Senior attacker Theresa Shafron matched a career-high with three assists in the game, and added a goal early in the second half to bring Drew within 6-4.
• Sophomore defender Shaylyn MacKinnon was active on Drew's backline with career-high marks of seven groundballs and three caused turnovers. She has now picked up at least one groundball in all eight games this spring.

The Difference: Despite playing down a woman following a yellow card, the Devils scored a crucial goal with 31 seconds left in the opening half to increase their lead to 6-3. That momentum carried into the second half, where FDU-Florham scored two goals for every Drew tally over the first 22 minutes of the second half to take a 12-6 advantage.

Another glaring disparity was FDU-Florham's ability to convert on free position attempts, where they scored on 8-of-12 tries. The Rangers countered with a 3-of-7 mark from the 8-meter arc.

Highlights
• The Devils set the tone for the afternoon early on a free position goal just 31 seconds into the game.
• Senior midfielder Morgan Mason continued her scoring streak six minutes into the contest, striking the back of the net on a free position shot to increase her scoring spurt to seven straight. The tally had Drew trailing 2-1.
• Sophomore midfielder Mia Campanale scored her third goal of the season, and one of three free position goals for Drew, with 10:43 remaining in the first to keep Drew within one goal, 4-3.
• Junior midfielder Nicole Kinney and freshmen midfielders Jenna Morelli and Allie DiDario each scored second half goals, but the Devils maintained a comfortable cushion down the stretch.

Stat Sheet
• The Devils outshot Drew 29-20 while holding the Rangers to just 12 shots on target.
• There was plenty of daylight between Drew and FDU's clearing statistics with the Devils posting an 11-of-13 mark compared to the Rangers' 13-of-22.
• FDU held advantages in groundballs (20-17) and draw controls (15-7).
