WAYNE, N.J. (March 30, 2017) – Junior catcher Heather Ronchi recorded her 100^th career hit as a member of the Drew University softball team during a doubleheader at William Paterson University, where Drew dropped a pair of 8-0 losses on Thursday.
 
Ronchi reached the career milestone in her first at-bat in Game 1, a two-out single up the middle in the top of the first inning. The junior captain needed just 88 games to notch hit No. 100 and now sports a career batting average of .347.
 
With the two losses, Drew falls to 3-11 overall and 0-4 on the road. The Pioneers improve to 8-6 by winning their 2017 home openers.
 
Ronchi's hit was Drew's only baserunner in Game 1 against WPU starter Gabrielle Castelli, who improved to 5-1 with her six-inning shutout highlighted by three strikeouts and zero walks.
 
The Pioneers' Allison Podmajersky followed in Game 2 with the second complete-game shutout of the day. She allowed hits by junior third baseman Lauren Mastropierro and senior shortstop Meghan McGuire, but didn't walk anyone and struck out seven in her five innings of work.
 
The Rangers finally host their home openers on Sunday, April 2 at 1:00 p.m. against Elizabethtown College in a Landmark Conference doubleheader.
