MISENHEIMER, N.C. (March 6, 2017) — Seven different members of the Drew University men's lacrosse team scored goals after the squad used a late surge to capture its first win of the season, 9-6, over Pfeiffer University in the first of its two-game set in North Carolina on Monday afternoon.
By the Numbers
The Rangers have gotten the all-important first victory out of the way after a hard-fought, teeter-totter contest with the Falcons, their record stands at 1-2 while Pfeiffer falls to 1-6.
Top Performers
• Freshman midfielder
Kevin Goettlich and junior attacker
Jack Crowley led the way for the Rangers with each player scoring twice, assisting once and shooting five times. The outing sees Crowley build upon his team-high goal total that now stands at six. Goettlich's day sees him not far behind with four scores. Goettlich's pair both came in the fourth quarter, with the first score tying the game at 6-6 and the second adding insurance and making it 8-6. Crowley's second goal broke one of five ties in the contest, giving Drew a 5-4 lead in the third quarter.
• Assisting on two of those pivotal goals was sophomore attacker
Ryan D'Alessandro, who not only scored but pitched crisp passes to Goettlich and Crowley to free them up and allow for the Rangers' fifth and sixth scores.
• Freshman midfielder
Kyle MacDonnell scored the first goal of his career on a man-up opportunity in the third quarter that tied things up at 4-4. It was only a matter of time of MacDonnell to find the twine as the first-year sent a game-high eight shots netward.
• Also finding the back of the net were sophomore midfielder
Brendan Hamm and junior attacker
Devin Lyons, both scores were their first of the year.
Turning Point
Senior defender
Frank Kingston, who usually devotes all his energy on the backside of the field, snuck into the offensive zone late in the fourth quarter. Kingston collected the ball and ripped his second shot of the game, which beat the netminder and proved to be the game-winner. It was Kingston's very first goal in Blue and Green and broke the fifth and final tie between the two clubs.
Highlights
• Lyons broke a 1-1 tie in the second quarter when he ushered the ball into dangerous territory with little help, he set his feet and fired for a tiebreaking, unassisted goal. Just five minutes later, the deadly Goettlich, Crowley combo met for another score to make it 3-1
• The fourth quarter was all Drew as the Rangers stacked four goals on top of each other to build an impenetrable lead and finish off the Falcons.

• Drew earned its win by putting 23 shots on goal to just 13 from Pfeiffer.
• The Rangers were nearly flawless clearing the ball, converting 17-of-18 tries.
• Drew also held the advantage in ground balls, grabbing 29 of them, leaving just 18 for the Falcons.
