CLERMONT, Fla. (March 8, 2017) – The Drew University softball team picked up its first two victories of 2017 in starkly different manners, a 16-0 drubbing of Penn State New Kensington and a 2-1 barnburner over Mount Ida College on Day 3 of the PFX Spring Games in Florida.

By the Numbers
The Rangers improve to 2-4 by scoring 16 runs in a game, the most since a 22-0 win against Sarah Lawrence College in April of 2014. New Kensington starts its season 0-3, while Mount Ida falls to 3-5.

Top Performers
• Junior outfielder
Brooke Adams batted 1-for-4 with two walks and three RBIs, including the winning RBI on a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning against Mount Ida.
• Sophomore pitcher/first baseman
Bethany Budner hit a single and recorded an RBI in each win. She also started the New Kensington game for two innings without allowing a hit or run.
• Freshman third baseman
Meghan Beyer hit her first career home run against New Kensington, a solo shot over the left field fence to put Drew up 8-0. She finished the day 2-for-6 with three runs scored.
• Senior shortstop
Meghan McGuire drove in three during the 16-run outburst against Penn State New Kensington.

Game 1 Highlights
• The Rangers pounced on the Lions with a seven-run first inning that saw 13 come to the plate. Budner, sophomore outfielder
Katie Grodski, McGuire and Adams drove in runs.
• Drew tacked on six more in the bottom of the third on RBIs from freshman pitcher
Victoria Avella (on her first career hit), senior outfielder
Phylicia Pellot, Adams and two from junior
Heather Ronchi.
• Avella picked up her first collegiate win on the mound by throwing the final three innings of shutout ball with four hits and a walk allowed.
• Junior second baseman
Madi Sheetz recorded her first collegiate hit, a single in the third inning.

Game 2 Highlights
• Senior starting pitcher
Emma Agostini earned the win in the circle after completing the game without allowing an earned run on five hits and two walks. She struck out three while improving to 1-2 on the mound this week in Florida.
• The Mustangs struck first with an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning, which saw Drew make three errors.
• Drew responded quickly by tying the game 1-1 in the top of the second on Budner's RBI single, plating junior designated player
Lauren Mastropierro – who led off the inning with a single.
• McGuire led off the sixth inning with a single, advanced to third on a passed ball and a Pellot bunt single to set the stage for Adams, who drove home the winning run on a deep fly ball to left field.
