MADISON, N.J. (April 18, 2017) – Five Drew University fencers and Head Coach
Vincent Paragano stayed active early in their offseason by volunteering at the university's Health and Wellness Expo in Baldwin Gymnasium.
       Â
Freshman
Ryan Cassidy helped organize the event as part of his first year Civic Scholar project. He was joined by Coach Paragano, junior
Pearl Sutter, sophomores
Emilio Penate and
Brian Heist, and freshman
Dylan Switala.
Â
The Drew Health and Wellness Expo provided resources, education and motivation to the community on the benefits of leading an active and healthy lifestyle. Diet tips, examples of exercise and relaxation techniques were all on display. Cassidy helped provide one of those examples of exercise at the 2017 expo.
Â
"The team is here to demonstrate alternative forms of exercise," Cassidy said. "Fencing is a very physical sport, you have to have endurance, be quick on your feet, flexible, and strong - not just physically, but also mentally.
Â
More than 150 expo attendees watched as Cassidy and the Rangers sparred and demonstrated the intricacies of their sport.
Â
"The team coming out today speaks volumes to our program and its student-athletes," Cassidy said. "They could have been enjoying their Sunday by hanging out with friends, studying or relaxing. But here they are, supporting their friend, teammate and fellow student. This means more to me than words can describe."
