BRONX, N.Y. (April 18, 2017) – The Drew University softball team pounded out 29 hits and 31 runs in a doubleheader sweep at Lehman College on Tuesday evening, backing up two winning pitching performances from senior 
Emma Agostini.
 
By the Numbers: The Rangers' first doubleheader sweep of the season leads to a 7-18 overall record, while the Lightning drop to 4-20 with their sixth straight loss.
 
Top Performers
• Junior catcher 
Heather Ronchi combined for a 5-for-8 day at the plate with two doubles, five runs and five RBIs.
• Agostini struck out a total of 11 batters while earning two victories in the circle to move to 5-8 on the year. She went the distance in Game 1, allowing two runs on six hits and four walks over six innings. She took over with one out in the first in Game 2 and surrendered four hits and three earned runs over the final 4.2 innings of work. Agostini backed up her work with a 4-for-8 performance at the plate with two doubles, four runs and five RBIs.
• Junior second baseman 
Madi Sheetz was the lone Ranger with multiple hits in Game 1 (2-for-4), then hit 4-for-5 in the second game of the twin bill. She finished with four runs and three RBIs overall.
 
The Difference: Lehman took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the first in Game 2, but Drew responded quickly with nine hits and nine runs to go up 10-5 in the second. Drew brought 14 hitters to plate to take control of the game.
 
Game 1 Highlights
• Junior left fielder 
Brooke Adams scored on a double steal in the first, then knocked in a run on a single in the second to put the Rangers up 4-1.
• In the four-run sixth, Sheetz and Agostini sparked the rally with RBI singles to make it 7-2 and 8-2.
 
Game 2 Highlights
• Ronchi's RBI single gave Drew a quick 1-0 lead before Lehman's five-spot in the bottom half of the inning.
• Drew's nine-run second featured back-to-back run scoring doubles off the bats of sophomore right fielder 
Katie Grodski and sophomore first baseman 
Cara O'Leary.
• Junior third baseman 
Lauren Mastropierro drove in two runs on a hard-hit single to center field to put Drew up 13-5 in the third.
• Agostini belted two ground-rule RBI doubles in the fourth and fifth innings, and Sheetz recorded her fourth RBI of the game to make it 20-8 in favor of the Rangers.
 
Up Next: The Rangers return home to host Hunter College on Thursday, April 20 for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
