Drew Promotes Christa Racine to Director of Athletics

MADISON, N.J. (April 28, 2017) – Christa Racine, Drew University's head women's soccer coach since 1994 and associate athletic director since 2009, has been promoted to the position of Director of Athletics effective July 1.

Racine will maintain her position as head coach and will lead the Drew women's soccer team in her 24th season this fall. She will inherit the reigns of the department's 20 NCAA Division III teams.

Off the soccer pitch, Racine has been a vital member of the Drew Athletics administration for nearly two decades. She added assistant athletic director duties in 1998, which started a long string of projects, initiatives and fundraising in support of Drew's student-athletes. Racine has also acted as Drew's physical education chair for the last nine years.

"The future of Drew's athletic department is in good hands, just as it has always been with Christa in its administration," said Robert J. Massa, Senior Vice President for Enrollment and Institutional Planning at Drew. "Christa has had a distinguished career as a coach, and is respected across the campus and beyond as a charismatic leader and administrator. President MaryAnn Baenninger and I are excited she has accepted this position to lead the Rangers and build on athletic and academic success."

Under Racine's guidance, the Rangers have won 240 games, two conference championships and an Eastern College Athletic Conference title. She has been named a conference Coach of the Year three times and the Division III Coach of the Year in her very first season at the helm, while producing 93 All-Conference performers, 16 regional All-Americans and three conference Athletes of the Year.

She has been at the forefront of major fundraising events such as the Blue & Green Golf Outing and the launch of the athletics master plan, along with various facilities improvements over the years. A powerful voice on campus, Racine has also taken her expertise to conferences and conventions across the nation. She has delivered the keynote address for the last five years at the NJAIAW National Girls and Women in Sport Day addressing the progress of Title IX and its effects on women's college athletics, in addition to speeches at the Women Leaders in College Sports Institute for Administrative Advancement and at the NCAA Convention on a panel for coach-athlete communication.10355

"I am thrilled and honored to be given the opportunity to support Drew Athletics at a level that can positively impact all of our student athletes," Racine said. "I look forward to helping our athletes reach the highest level of achievement and excellence. It's an honor to continue the great work Jason Fein has started and the current success of our programs."

Jason Fein, Drew's Director of Athletics for the last nine years, announced earlier this month that he would step down in the summer.

Additional duties and roles for Racine over her career in The Forest include serving as the Senior Woman Administrator, a Presidential Task Force, the Organizational Review Committee and the One And All Campaign.

Racine is a soccer star in her own right, being named to the Newark Star-Ledger's  All-Century Team following an All-America career at Morris Catholic High School and a record-breaking run at Rutgers University, where she set a new mark for career goals.
